Reunite With Wellness
An in-custody yoga teacher training, group facilitation mentorship, and job placement program.
Reunite With Wellness is a job training, a yoga teacher training, a trauma-informed mindfulness program, a justice-centered response to mass incarceration, and our effort at reducing incarceration rates. This offers training in group facilitation and holistic wellness, yoga, meditation, breath work, nutrition, and more. Incarcerated students will learn invaluable tools for self-care while gaining skills to become facilitators of this work. Newly certified facilitators will received mentorship and transitional support in teaching jobs that values their unique lived experience.
The intended outcome of this project is to reduce the rate of incarceration by availing economic opportunities while joining individual and collective wellness to cultivate community care.
The guiding principles of Reunite With Wellness:
Social change is not possible without radical self-care for everyone in the movement. This work is rooted in Healing Justice and confronts the cycles and depths of trauma the punitive system inflicts on low-income, Black, and Latinx communities.
Effective facilitators, healers, and leaders come from all backgrounds, lived experiences, races, ethnicities, genders… and their knowledge, skills, and connections are valuable. Their knowledge, skills, and connections have value. Their time must be compensated fairly — poverty is itself a form of violence and a source of trauma.
A sustainable movement develops leaders through mentorship and communal support. Interdependence is engaged through practiced community organizing.
